2nd Annual Bordentown, NJ 4th of July Fireworks Display

On Saturday, July 5, 2014, at the Joseph Lawrence Park in Bordentown Township, hosted by The Foundation for Bordentown Traditions, held the 2nd Annual Independence Day Firework Celebration. The Foundation for Bordentown Traditions has spent the last 12 months fundraising to bring back the fireworks.

I volunteer for this wonderful organization. That day I was stationed at the 50/50 tent at the entrance of the park, welcoming everyone and encouraging them to help raise money for next year’s fireworks with a 50/50 ticket. This year’s winner bought theirs during The Street Of Dreams Car Show in June and won $1107.50! I love being a part of this group of volunteers, it’s one of the ways that I can help to give back to my community.

That night they had a local celebrity Dunk Tank; the money to dunk your favorite Bordentown Resident into the Dunk Tank. All money raised from the Dunk Tank went directly back to the Foundation. 50/50 tickets were sold and the winner was announced that evening around 8PM. This is one of the only ways the Foundation was raising money the night of the fireworks. There were free face painting, inflatables, live music, and local restaurants in the food area.

The Annual Bordentown Township Fish Derby

On July 4th, 2014 at Northern Community park in Bordentown Township, the Annual Fish Derby began at 9Am for Registration and fishing started at 10AM-12PM. Trophies were awarded at noon for the “Largest Fish Caught”. The pond was stocked by the NJ State Fish and Wildlife.

For a while the fish were not biting because the barometric pressure was too low. This meant to the fish that it was going to rain or storm, so they stayed closer to the bottom. Then suddenly towards the near end of the event, the fish started to bite as the afternoon weather became clearer and warmer.

The Florence High School Class of 2014

Florence High School, in Florence, NJ held their graduation ceremony for the Class of 2014 on Friday, June 20th, 2014. I have photographed this event before for The Register News and so far each time, the weather has been gorgeous. It’s always held outside on their football field.

Each time I am assigned to a graduation ceremony, I’m reminded of mine from 1991. How could you not be thinking about this? Sure I was thinking of the correct exposures for shooting into the sun with my camera and flash. But I see how these young adults are going out into the real world and wonder about their future. Some had scholarships to college, while others were entering the military, or starting to work right away before they decided what they wanted to do next. Their world is their oyster and they have a lifetime to make something of it.

The 5th Annual Green Fair in Bordentown, NJ

The 5th Annual Green Fair was held on Saturday, June 14, 2014 at the Carslake Community Center in Bordentown City. Many vendors were there to show off their eco-friendly items and products that they make or sell from companies. There were demonstrations, activities for children, food, and much more.

Cynthia assists Kinsey with drilling a bottle cap into a large mural that empowers the next generation of environmentally conscious and creative citizens. This project is by MAD Splatter, a local non profit organization that exposes children to the world through the eyes of others and help them draw a connection between community service and self-enrichment. They create parties for children to teens to celebrate the art of Making A Difference.

Dan Weekes of Pollination Station, holds Nellie, a rescued possum. The Green Fair was her first public appearance. She developed Metabolic Bone Disease, due to an improper diet. Nellie was brought to a local wildlife rescue and then was transferred to Pollination Station to be used as a wildlife ambassador. Due to her Metabolic Bone Disease, she cannot be released back into the wild.

The Circus Came To Town

Our friend John wanted to become a professional clown. Back in the fall of 2012 he started a crowdfunding campaign to help him achieve his dream.  Send John to Clown School! No, Really…

John was asking for $1600, and in just one month raised $1750! We donated $5 and for that we got a very generous hug 🙂

Now John and his wife, the lovely, Clara work for the Kelly Miller Circus, a one ring, big top travelling circus. We went after our daughter got out of school on June 12th, drove down to Browns Mills, NJ and had ringside seats, courtesy of John and Clara. Unfortunately we missed the tiger and a couple of other acts. Our daughter had never been to a big top circus before and this was truly a wonderful treat! I only brought my Canon 7D with just one lens, the Canon EF-S 17-55 f2.8, no flash and a tiny Canon S100 point and shoot cameras.

John is now the main clown act for them, his clown name is J.P. Ballyhoo and his routines were wonderful and really funny! Everyone was laughing and having a good time.

Selling Lemonade For A Lego Set

Little boy sells lemonade to buy a Lego set. Photo by Deirdre Ryan Photography.

Our 4 year old next door neighbor, Cole, wants to buy the Star Wars Death Star Lego set. So with the help of his mom, he put up a lemonade stand in front of his home in Bordentown City during the Annual City Wide Yard Sale on June 7th, 2014. Each cup was 25 cents. I’m not sure how much he made that day, but that Lego set he wants costs $400. Good luck buddy!
