Rumpleteazer In A Tree

Our daughter loves cats, so I introduced her to the musical Cats. It was my first broadway show back in the 80’s, my mother took me to see it at the Winter Garden Theater in NYC. I loved it! I really hope that they bring it back so that I can bring our daughter to see it on Broadway because there’s nothing like it!

So, we took her to see it at The Kelsey Theater at The Mercer County Community College, and she loved it. It wasn’t quite like the broadway show, but regardless, it was really good! For about a year she’s been wanting to be Rumpleteazer from this musical. My husband found a tutorial online for the costume, he works nights and had her help,  and he did the makeup,  below is the result:

Costumes, Drill Teams and The Joker

Halloween is a big deal in my town, so big that we have a lot of events. Halloween decorating contests, we have a Ghost Walk, a parade, and a street shuts down just for that one night. Our local schools even have big Halloween events as fundraisers.

Our daughter is a Junior Girl Scout, she’s dressed up as Rumpleteazer from the musical Cats. My husband who sews, made the costume, wig, tail and did her makeup. She and her troop walked in the parade, threw candy to people along the route and had a good time. I got to walk and sit in the back on the pick up truck in front of us from the Daisy Troop in front of us. My husband’s costume was The Joker that he created from items he had already.

The Circus Came To Town

Our friend John wanted to become a professional clown. Back in the fall of 2012 he started a crowdfunding campaign to help him achieve his dream.  Send John to Clown School! No, Really…

John was asking for $1600, and in just one month raised $1750! We donated $5 and for that we got a very generous hug 🙂

Now John and his wife, the lovely, Clara work for the Kelly Miller Circus, a one ring, big top travelling circus. We went after our daughter got out of school on June 12th, drove down to Browns Mills, NJ and had ringside seats, courtesy of John and Clara. Unfortunately we missed the tiger and a couple of other acts. Our daughter had never been to a big top circus before and this was truly a wonderful treat! I only brought my Canon 7D with just one lens, the Canon EF-S 17-55 f2.8, no flash and a tiny Canon S100 point and shoot cameras.

John is now the main clown act for them, his clown name is J.P. Ballyhoo and his routines were wonderful and really funny! Everyone was laughing and having a good time.

Repaving Bordentown City Street

Here in town, we’ve had a lot of work done with our water and gas lines. This means after each job a lot of patchwork was done to our streets making for a very bumpy ride. For cars, bikes and those who jog and our annual 5K events.

It’s tricky trying to get around our little town if you live below or on Prince St. I for one am one of the lucky to have a driveway, but trying to get my child to school meant breaking habit to go the long way. Then coming back was tricky because the traffic pattern changed again. Trying to walk to the post office was interesting because I chose the time when fresh hot asphalt was being laid down and crossing the street became an adventure.
But with all of these pain in the ass things will come a new and smooth street that will be safer and easier to keep clean and plowed in bad weather.
I shot these with my iPhone.

Shiseido Company Group Shot and My Ankle Drama – NJ Photographer

This blog is lacking in content because of what happened to me on July 29th, 2012. I was heading downstairs to my office and I fell down the stairs. My right ankle “folded” under itself to the left, breaking it in 3 places with damage to the ligament. Worse was my then 5 year old daughter saw and heard everything. She was actually well composed and played it pretty cool but was very worried.

Since this was in the basement, we got a neighbor to help David get me up the stairs and to the car and rushed me to the ER. I looked down at my ankle and knew it was broken, while my poor mom kept saying that perhaps it was just a bad sprain. But I knew that she knew it was broken too.

So I watched the opening night of the Summer Olympics in the ER on painkillers. And our living room became my “hospital room” for almost 3 months. Oy Vey……

The crazy thing was I still had photo gigs set up that I had to do. So I did them while on Percocet and a splint for my ankle up to my knee and photographed my clients. Then I had my surgery on August 8th, 2012.

The next 2 weeks were a living hell. The pain, the side effects of the painkillers, icing my ankle 24 hours was awful. My body was going through things I never expected. Natural childbirth was easier than this.

I ended up with 8 screws and a plate.
2 days after surgery, with ice. Ok the pain was HORRIBLE, but the worst was this was during the summer. I couldn’t go to the pool, or go out, or anything. Thank the Lord I had the help of my parents and my husband who bless him, slept downstairs with me. It was a good thing too, I had some really rough nights. Plus we have a full bathroom on the first floor. And I must mention this, you need to also keep your foot elevated above your heart at ALL times.
Franken-Foot revealed. Oh and by the way if anyone tells you that getting staples out doesn’t hurt, it’s a lie! I had a lot of them and I felt each one. The nurses thank God were quick 🙂
2 weeks after surgery, I was put in a snazzy non weight bearing cast. I chose black, my daughter thought I should’ve gone with pink or purple of course 😉 Still had to be on the first floor, use crutches, etc. Oh and did I mention,  you need to also keep your foot elevated above your heart at ALL times. I still had to ice it but not as much.

The 2012 Summer Olympics, iPad, movies, tv shows all in HD with knitting, music and my Barnes and Noble Nook were good friends.
I somehow continued to photograph gigs! I was asked by Shiseido to photograph their company’s Hear Association Walk team members. So I did all in my black cast, check it out!
I went up a ladder with some help and did it. I also booked 2 weddings! My doctor told me he could fix me and he did.
Getting paint at Home Depot. My husband took advantage of the situation and painted our bedroom. Notice the foot is elevated.
Spending time with my daughter. She got Legos for her 6th birthday and we played with them. We did quite a bit of together time like this.
FINALLY after 4 weeks in the black cast I got it off but I was not allowed to put weight on it for another 3 weeks. But the plus side was now I could scoot up on my butt up the stairs and sleep in my own bedroom. It was bliss, same with the feeling of air on my leg!
So I rented a nifty scooter the same day.
It was so cool and being who I am, I went as fast as I could with it. Not exactly a flattering image but you get the idea 😉 Oh and did I mention, you need to also keep your foot elevated above your heart at ALL times.
Finally, after 3 weeks, I got the ok to put weight on my foot. I used crutches but after 2 sessions of physical therapy I started to no longer use them. I still hobbled around limping a bit but I had sessions to do and a wedding coming up. This was shot on October 9th, 2012. I photographed a wedding on October 20th and yes….I.ROCKED.IT.
Me on location for a shoot.
I finished physical therapy around December  I was going twice a week. My first session they started me on weights because while I was in bed recovering, I continued to stay limber by stretching my legs, arms, doing leg lifts in both casts, touching my toes, etc.
Before my accident, I was doing really well physically, walking up to 3 miles on my treadmill, swimming, and you know carrying camera gear is a workout in itself. So I continue to stretch, do yoga, practice my balance techniques and get stronger every day. It’s going to take 9 months to a year to fully heal and recover. It still hurts in the morning and evening, I can tell when the Aleve is wearing off. And then the snap, crackle pop of the ankle is “pleasant”.
BUT I am fixed, just like my surgeon said he would do. I went to Trenton Orthopedics Group in Hamilton, NJ and my guy was Dr. Kunkle. My therapy was at Nova Care in Bordentown, NJ. Without their help and the love of my family and friends, I don’t know what I would’ve done.
Thank you!!!!!

Tractor Pull in Burlington County Fairgrounds-NJ Photographer

What is a tractor pull?
Truck and Tractor pulling, also known as power pulling, is a motorsport competition, popular in AmericaEurope (especially in the Netherlands), Australiaand Brazil, which requires modified tractors to pull a heavy sledge (sled) along a 35 ft wide and length of 100 meter or 300 ft+ track, with the winner being the tractor that pulls the sledge farthest. The sport is known as the world’s most powerful motorsport, due to the multi-engined modified tractor pullers.
All tractors, in their respective classes, pull a set weight in the sledge. When a tractor gets to the end of the 100 metre (300 feet) track this is known as a “full pull”. When more than one tractor completes the course, more weight is added to the sledge, and those competitors that went past 300 feet will have a pull-off; the winner is the one who can pull the sledge the farthest.
The sledge is known as a weight transfer sled. This means that as it is pulled down the track, the weight is transferred (linked with gears to the sledge’s wheels) from over the rear axles and towards the front of the sledge. In front of the rear wheels, there is a “pan”. This is essentially a metal plate and as the weight moves over this the resistance builds. The further the tractor pulls the sledge, the harder it gets.
The most powerful tractors, such as those in the 4.5 modified class in Europe, can produce over 10,000 bhp.”
This particular event was with the Central Jersey Tractor Pullers Association. At the Burlington County Fairgrounds in Springfield, NJ, there is a special area and track that was built just for these events.
I must say this event was AWESOME! I love cars and trucks and other mechanical things, so this was a lot of fun for me. I met a lot of really nice people and they took the time to explain what was going on and everything.

PFC Ben Moore Comes Back Home To Bordentown, NJ

I live in a small close tight community in a small town. The kind that still remembers who lived in which house after they house was sold three times since.
I was there to photograph the escorted motorcade back home. I was there to capture images for Hope Hose Humane #1, the fire house he belonged to and also to welcome him home and bid farewell. The more I read about him from his family and friends, the more I wished that I had known him.
